Sybil Ludington was only 16 years old as she courageously rode 40 miles to save New York during the Revolutionary War. Daughter of Colonel Henry Ludington, Sybil is known as The Girl Paul Revere and is a wonderful real life example of courage and faith.

On the night of April 26, 1777, Sybil with her family received word that British troops had begun burning Danbury, Connecticut only 25 miles away. Her fathers troops were scattered over a large area and he needed to remain in position to organize the troops as they arrived so young Sybil took on the ride during a driving rain. As her ride started at nine in the evening and ended at near dawn. Riding twice the distance as Paul Revere the militia men heard her cry Muster at Ludingtons, she shouted at the farmhouses. With stick in hand, as she rode her horse she pounded on doors to wake the sleeping and she even managed to defend herself with her fathers musket against the enemy that crossed her path. As she returned to her home in the morning, soaked from the rain, she found most of her fathers 400 soldiers were ready to march. Because of her courage, Colonel Ludington with his troops were able to engage and defeat the British advance.
